The Mario game series has been around for a long time and shows no signs of stopping. Along the way, there have been many changes to the game that have led to it becoming what it is today. The evolution of Mario began with Shigeru Miyamoto’s “Donkey Kong” in 1981 when he introduced Jumpman (later named Mario) as the hero. There were only four levels, but this laid the groundwork for future games in which jumping was a central mechanic.
In 1985, Miyamoto introduced Mario’s brother Luigi who also had a role to play. This time it was the game “Super Mario Bros.” which marked the first appearance of Princess Toadstool (later named Peach) and Bowser as enemies. The addition of new playable characters made for an expanded gameplay experience that could be enjoyed with friends.
Finally in 1990, Nintendo released Super Mario World which featured 16 different worlds on a map screen rather than scrolling from left to right like they did before. With this change, each world became more detailed and increasingly diverse in its design. For instance, Yoshi played a bigger part with his ability to ride around on ladders and eat anything he encounters including other creatures or objects such as explosives!

To play these games, the player had to type in commands on a keyboard. This allowed for more complex and involved gameplay than anything that was possible before. For example, players could use items such as keys or bombs which they found throughout their journey by typing specific sequences of words like “get key” or “use bomb.” These early computer role playing games were so popular among the public because it gave them a sense of adventure unlike any other video game at the time!
In order to find out what happened next with Nintendo), Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto came up with the idea for Super Mario Bros., while testing his skills at a game called Donkey Kong. He wanted to make an arcade-style game that could be played on the home TV set, challenging players who were just learning how to play games.
Miyamoto said in an interview with Nintendo Power magazine in 1990: “I didn’t want adults or children playing our games for long periods of time because maybe they’d hurt their hands.”
The result was a fast-paced platformer – and one of the most popular video games ever made.During development, Miyamoto considered using Mario’s brother Luigi as his protagonist but decided not to do so when he learned only twelve sprites would be available for him; this limitation led Miyamoto much later to design Super Mario World with Yoshi (which had 24 total sprites) as the protagonist.
Over time, Mario has continued to evolve and grow with every new game release.

There is always an evolution happening with technology as it advances which allows us as humans (and players) time to catch up so we can receive the best gaming experience possible while still staying on top of our game! Let’s take Mario for example. In his earliest form as Jumpman in Donkey Kong, Mario was just an Italian plumber who could jump on enemies’ heads to defeat them. He later became Super Mario with the release of Super Mario Bros., where he gained the ability to fly after jumping into certain objects and earned more powerful abilities such as fireball throwing. The latest version of this character comes from Nintendo’s newest console - the Switch - which features a level editor so players can create their own custom levels using assets they find around them!
