Grandparents are the most important part of a child’s life; it’s not something that should be taken lightly. For that reason, it is important for grandparents to show proper manners with their grandchildren. If you are giving a gift, you should be treated with respect, which means that you should give the gift with the expectation that you will be given something in return.
Of course, this is easier said than done. I mean, if you want your grandparent to give you a grandchild, you better expect a grandchild. So, how do you do that? Well, there are a few different ways of approaching this.
The first option is to have a nice note along with the gift. You can write something like, “Congratulations on your upcoming grandchild” and you’ll probably get a lot of comments about how awkward this is. This is fine and a great idea if you’re giving a gift or simply to be nice.
But if you want to really nail this, you can do a little bit of sneaky. You can write up a nice, handwritten note with your gift saying something like, “I would like to give you this grandchild. Please accept my sincere gratitude for having you in my life.” Then take some pictures of the grandchild and mail them to your grandparent. The advantage to this method is that it’s a little less awkward for your grandparent.
If you don’t have a grandparent to take pictures of your grandchild, you might be able to get away with just mailing the grandchild a small gift. It may not be nearly as nice and you may not get your grandchild’s favorite toy. But the more casual approach is a great way to thank your grandparent without causing a fight between you and your mother.
If your grandparent does not have mail, you can ask them to write you something. Of course, your grandparent may not understand it’s an etiquette violation to write a letter to your mother. But the mail system is a lot more user-friendly.
We don’t know if this is something some people are doing or not, but in the past, many of the grandparents that are now older parents, have written letters to their grandchildren on birthday and other special occasions. We’ve seen at least one case where a grandchild sent a birthday card to his grandparent when they were too busy to write back. In another case, a grandchild wrote a letter to his father on his birthday.
This is a great example of grandparent/grandchild communication, because their language is usually very similar, and their relationship is often very close. For example, we know that the grandfather and the son are very close. The grandson and the father are very close, as are the mother and daughter. But the father and his son are very, very close.
Our relationship with our parents is often very close, but there are times when they don’t necessarily communicate directly with us. This may be when they’re busy working, and the phone ring goes to the parent, or when the parent is on vacation and not able to come to the phone. As a result, some grandparents are able to send a card to their grandchildren and still receive a response.
We’re talking about grandparents here. I’m assuming the grandparents who sent the cards are grandparents who are close to the child, and thus they are more like family members than grandparents. But we’re also talking about those grandparents who are not family members. They’re grandparents, but they’ve never been close to the child, and so are not able to respond.
